Dr. Vishodana Thamotharan


Dr. Vishodana Thamotharan attended the University of California, Los Angeles where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Molecular, Cell and Development Biology and Minor in Education.  After graduating from the University of California, Los Angeles, she attended Stanford University where she earned a Master of Arts in Education as well as a California Single Subject Credential in Chemistry.  She then returned to Los Angeles where she taught high school chemistry in a high needs school in East Los Angeles.  Throughout the years, Dr. Thamotharan served as a New Teacher Mentor, Science Department Chair and the Science Teacher Leader for the district.  With the interest of improving access to science for underrepresented youth, Dr. Thamotharan decided to pursue her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Teacher Education in Multicultural Societies from the University of Southern California.  Upon graduation, she accepted an Assistant Teaching Professor position at the University of Missouri-Kansas City within the Institute for Urban Education where she taught courses ranging from teaching methods to social justice seminars.  Dr. Thamotharan is currently the Associate Director of FIUteach.  Her research interests include STEM Teaching Identity and the relationship of instructional choices with preservice teaching beliefs and practices.
